The Law Society Excellence Awards 2020 - Winner

There has never been a more important time to celebrate the hard work, skill and dedication of lawyers in England and Wales, to champion the rule of law and to defend the fundamental right to justice for all.

Law Society of England and Wales president Simon Davis said: “2020 has been an extremely challenging year for the profession and the public. Solicitors have gone above and beyond in order to keep individual and business clients out of trouble, often at risk to their own mental, physical and financial health. At the Law Society Excellence Awards, we come together to celebrate outstanding success".

“There are more than 9,000 firms and 190,000 solicitors in England and Wales, so to win an Excellence Award is an extraordinary achievement".

Small Law Firm of the Year

This award celebrates the successes of small firms over the last year, whether from stand-out events or overall performance. These firms have demonstrated excellence through business improvement, staff engagement and development, and client service.

Emmersons Solicitors impressed the judges with their commitment to public service through extensive work as LGBTQ campaigners and career mentors to young people.

Jacqueline Emmerson - Lifetime Achievement Award

It is more than 21 years since this native of Sunderland launched a town centre Solicitors firm and 30 years since she began practising law. And as she collected the award, Jacqueline was keen to highlight one particular aspect of her work. Jacqueline said "I am really proud because I have done a lot of work for the LGBT community in the last 21 years. For them, I wanted to win this because there has been an immense change in the law."

Feeding Families Certificate of Appreciation

Emmersons Solicitors made both office locations available as collection points every December. As a collection point for local businesses and members of our community to drop-off parcels for food.
