1: What made you want to become a solicitor?

My dad was a very senior police officer and I always wanted to be something to do with the law. I don’t think the police would have been for me so I successfully applied to Exeter to do a law degree and here I am.

2: What is the best thing about your role?

I love meeting and helping people, especially the elderly. They can be particularly vulnerable, and they bring out the protective part of me.

3: What has been your greatest career achievement?

I’ve had lots of great outcomes for clients over the 26 years since I started my Articles and I’ve acquired a lot of knowledge and experience over the years. My greatest achievement to me is the ability to use this to help those who need help.

4: What is the best piece of advice to give to clients or those needing legal advice?

It would of course depend on why a person was seeking legal advice. The thing I hear most is ‘yes but it’s the principle….’ My best advice is don’t let the cost outweigh the benefit, take a calm and sensible approach, don’t listen to ‘advice’ from friends of friends who have gone through the ‘same thing’ and don’t let principles get in the way of sensible compromise.
